Blackjack Bankroll Management: Control Risk Before You Play
Bankroll management is the framework used to decide how much virtual capital is available, how large one unit should be and where the session limits sit. It cannot create a winning expectation, but it can make risk visible and prevent random wager sizing.
Separate the bankroll from the wager
The bankroll is the full amount allocated to the exercise. The wager is only the amount used for one hand. Thinking in minimum units makes different tables and simulations easier to compare.
Define limits in advance
- Starting virtual bankroll.
- Minimum and maximum wager.
- Maximum acceptable drawdown from the recorded peak.
- Conditions for stopping, resetting or reviewing the method.
Track drawdown, not only the final result
Two methods can finish at the same balance while exposing the bankroll to very different levels of risk. Recording the lowest point and the decline from the latest peak reveals pressure that the final result alone hides.
Avoid the recovery trap
Increasing a wager to recover earlier losses can rapidly concentrate risk. Any recovery rule should be tested with strict caps and a complete history, including failed simulations—not only successful examples.
Review with consistent measurements
- Hands completed and units won or lost.
- Highest and lowest bankroll.
- Maximum drawdown and largest wager.
- Number of resets and times a risk limit was reached.
Put disciplined practice into action
Use virtual results, review every hand and compare structured methods without risking real money.
